One of the keys to successful candle making is organization. You will want to collect all your materials before you begin to construct your candle. The basic materials you will need are color dyes, scents, molds, waxes and wicks. Begin by cutting your wax into tiny pieces. You will find that the wax melts easier this way. At this point you will want to make sure your molds have been cleaned well both on the inside and out.
Next, melt your wax. You will be utilizing what is referred to as a double boiler. This is simply a smaller pot that sits inside a larger one. Fill the pot halfway up with water, pour in the wax and melt away. Make sure that the wax you have just melted has reached approximately 160f degrees.
Once your wax has acheived the correct temperature you may want to play with color dyes and scents. Drop just a couple of drips of color in and stir the wax and observe how the color changes. If you want to add scent to your candle you would do it hear as well. Remember not to overdue it as it only takes a couple of drops.
You may now instal your wick. Cut it down a bit then continously dip it into the wax until you are satisfied with its length.
You will most likely make a lot of mess and waste a bit of supplies in the beginning as you attempt to hone your craft. Try not to let that discourage you, its part of the process. With a little practice and with the right information you will perfect this very rewarding skill in no time.
